SPANISH TAX FOR NON-RESIDENTs
If you are a non-resident and own a property in Spain, you are obliged to pay an imputed income tax. The deadline is the 31st of December for the previous year. You will not necessarily be reminded that you owe this tax, and it is your responsibility to make sure it is paid. Overdue taxes must be settled before you sell or inherit.
SPANISH TAX RETURNS FOR RESIDENTS
The deadline for the tax returns for residents is the 30th of June.
In Spain it is required to have a NIE number, which is a Spanish fiscal number for foreigners, if you want to purchase property, a car, a boat, accept an inheritance or have a credit card.
If you own property in Spain we advice you to issue a spanish testament. This will make it a lot easier for your heirs if you should pass away.
